JNVCC Sewing Mission & Taylor County Family Services
Taylor County Family Services operates under the Taylor County Social Services Department, a public, tax-supported agency committed to meeting the urgent needs of vulnerable residents—children, the elderly, and adults facing hardship. Its mission centers on strengthening the community, protecting the vulnerable, and empowering individuals through case management, financial assistance, and coordination with broader social programs—including healthcare and housing referrals.
A key resource within this framework is the Bluebonnet Room, managed by the Taylor County Child Welfare Board in Abilene. This initiative serves children entering foster care—often at all hours, including late at night—with much-needed clothing and essentials.
They accept brand-new donations across all sizes—from preemie to adult—including coats, long-sleeve shirts, shoes, and more—especially during the colder months when demand surges.
The Jim Ned Valley Church of Christ Sewing Mission
The Sewing Mission of Jim Ned Valley Church of Christ (Tuscola, TX) has a heartfelt partnership with the Bluebonnet Room:
They provide quilts of all sizes and variety of clothing items, crafted or gathered as needed and upon request.
In honor of Bennie Mouser, the mission has pledged 100 quilts for both children and adults in 2025.
These quilts, often personalized with the recipient’s name, may be delivered during emergencies—even if family removal occurs in the middle of the night.
Earlier this spring, the Sewing Mission also organized a children’s socks and underwear drive, ensuring essentials are ready when they’re needed most.
Why This Matters
Emergency Response: When children are removed—even during nighttime—having clean, comfortable, and personalized items helps restore a sense of dignity and care.
Community Compassion: The clothing drive and quilts from Jim Ned’s mission show that a local church deeply cares about the community’s most vulnerable, offering tangible comfort when it's most needed.
Lasting Impact: A handcrafted quilt can provide warmth, security, and a reminder that someone cared enough to sew it just for them.
A Story of Faith in Action
At its core, this partnership embodies the values taught by the Jim Ned Valley Church of Christ: to serve the community, lift the weary, and practice Christ’s love through service.
Whether through quilt-laying stitch by stitch, clothing donations, or community drives, the Sewing Mission stands as a beacon of hope—bringing warmth, comfort, and a personal touch to children and families in crisis in Taylor County.
